Biography

Working in oils and acrylics, Janis paints the natural environment, still life and florals using vibrant colour and texture.

Painting from life, studies and her photos, Janis uses brush and painting knife to bring her paintings to life. She also enjoys painting en plein air on Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia and loves energy it gives her work.

Born and raised in Nova Scotia, many of Janis's paintings reflect the love of water and the seaside. A love of art and nature has always been a part of her life.

Janis worked in Lab Technology in Halifax N.S .and Saint John N.B. before moving to Ottawa where she expressed her creative side and graduated in Interior Design. Since then she has been involved in independent studies, classes, workshops and plein air painting for the past 11 years.

A member of Ottawa Art Assoc, Nepean Fine Arts League and West Carleton Arts Assoc. she has been participating in group and solo shows since 2002.

Artist Statement

I strive to depict Ithe natural landscape in its moods and seasons. I paint and sketch in the great outdoors and try to bring into my studio work the energy and freshness of plein air work. My paintings explore the beauty of the Canadian landscape, lush flowers and still lifes.
